MSDS Rx was founded in Seattle, Washington, in February 1995 on the very simple premise that there had to be a better way to manage and implement Material Safety Data Sheets as part of a comprehensive Hazard Communication program. Previously, founder John H. Watson, was Safety Manager for a hazardous materials abatement contractor (an intensely regulated industry) for several years where he experienced first-hand the challenges of effective implementation—in terms of employee safety—and regulatory compliance. He then worked as an Occupational Safety Consultant observing how these issues impacted in a number of diverse working environments. This resulted in the formation of MSDS Rx. Today MSDS Rx offers a unique combination of service and software specifically tailored to the needs of smaller companies who lack corporate resources for Hazard Communication implementation. Our clients are mostly contractors in construction-related fields, small and large, whose primary focus is on production, but are also keenly aware of worker safety as an integral production factor, and as a social and legal responsibility. About the name: MSDS Rx was conceived as "the prescription for MSDS headaches"—hence the Rx. We do not specialize in pharmaceuticals.
